For many years since independence, the northeastern part of India had been kept away from the limelight. However, in recent years more and more people have realised the importance and potential of the seven sisters. One of the most important north-eastern states is the state of Tripura. Of late the state government along with other organizations have been trying hard to promote art and culture in the state. In one such effort, the state government along with Sanskar Bharati(an organization that works for the promotion of Indian art and culture and was established to direct the attention of India's population towards fine arts)came up with the idea of Alpana Gram.
Alpana Gram is a village in Kapali Para, Lankamura, West Tripura where the walls of every mud house are painted with Alpana. The Bengali word 'Alpana' means colourful motifs, sacred art and paint which is mainly a paste of rice and flour on auspicious occasions. For a long time, the women of this village had been making such colourful motifs on auspicious occasions.
As it is rightly said great talent can't go unnoticed for too long, the sheer brilliance of the women of the village caught the eyes of Sanskar Bharati and them along with the Government of Tripura took up the initiative to promote this art with the help of local artists of the state and they ended up doing something extraordinary.
Many people may be surprised to know that this village has something special to offer for the foodies as well. Well, it's Pitha. Pitha is a type of palm-sized fritter, pancake or dumpling. It can be sweet or savoury and usually made from a dough or rice batter. For the readers who might not be able to visit this wonderful place during these uncertain times, I'm leaving you guys with a YouTube video link where the place has been recorded beautifully.
