For many years since independence, the northeastern part of India had been kept away from the limelight. However, in recent years more and more people have realised the importance and potential of the seven sisters. One of the most important north-eastern states is the state of Tripura. Of late the state government along with other organizations have been trying hard to promote art and culture in the state. In one such effort, the state government along with  Sanskar Bharati (an organization that works for the promotion of Indian art and culture and was established to direct the attention of India's population towards fine arts)came up with the idea of Alpana Gram.
